Etsy...Bitsy Spider...

Well, so far so good. I really am liking Etsy. It seems to be really user friendly and there is a ton of great information out there on how to make your shop a success. We haven't yet sold anything but we are building up our inventory and we do have great quality fabric so we just need to get our name out there. Its the whole wait thing..Grrr....
Well, anyway, this is a table topper that my sister made that is for sale ($32.00 at Etsy our shop link is on the top right hand side of the page or you can just search for CrazyQuilters on Etsy). It is totally amazing what you can make with a charm pack. For those who don't know what a charm pack is it is a package of pre-cut 5 inch squares that are all of the same fabric line. This table topper came from the Moda Gobble, Gobble! fabric line. My sister loves the pumpkins and the fun fall colors. I love how easy they are to put together and it looks like you worked really hard.
There are so many patterns that can be made with a group of varying colored squares. Around the world is one that when you get it done it looks wonderful and it really doesn't take too much brain power, which by the end of the day with my little man I really don't have that much left.
My next post is going to be about recreating a baby quilt from 28 years ago.
Till then,
Sarah

Lets do the funky chicken

Well, so far so good. I've successfully posted another item on Etsy. This item is a super fun wall hanging or lap quilt with chickens on it.

The fabric was purchased as a shop-hop challenge that our quilt guild had last year.

We had to go to several different quilt shops around the eastern Idaho area and purchase a specific fabric. The fabrics then had to be put together in a finished quilted item no larger than 200 inches in diameter and all this had to be done by the by following quilt guild meeting.

This was mostly my fault because they made me the vice-chairman of the quilt guild last year and as the vice-chairman I was in charge of the monthly meetings. We did have a lot of fun visiting the shops in our area and getting to know the shop owners and the shop owners got a bit of business because as a fabric-a-holic you can't just go into a fabric store and just buy one small fat quarter, there are so many other fun things that I need to buy!

She was also very smart in her usage of the scraps left over from the quilt. She used every piece that she had left to make the back. HOW COOL IS THAT!! I love the back of her quilt. As I said in the Etsy posting the back could be a front and my sister (who made the quilt) said that she liked the back better then the front.

My sister came up with the great chickens. I on the other hand procrastinated and ended up making a throw blanket out of pinwheels. I use the quilt on my very "beautiful" lime green couch. My mom keeps trying to get me to recover it or just buy a new one, but money spent on a couch is money that could have been spent on fabric. Speaking of fabric, don't you just love the fun 70's flowers on the back of the pinwheel quilt. LOVE IT....That and it's flannel. I love flannel.
Well, my peepers are getting ready to close for the night.
Happy quilting

First Time Blogger

Well, I've finally entered the world of blogging. I've thought about it for years but never got around to it. I recently made an Etsy account (www.etsy.com/shop/CrazyQuilters) and was reading up on how to get people to actually check out what we have to sell. They suggested a blog and so here we are.

We are a group of quilters who live in Eastern Idaho. My Grandma, mother and sister all contribute to the quilts that will be listed on our site.

This featured quilt was a block of the month quilt that for the year 2008 in the Mount Harrison Quilt Guild. My mom did this quilt. I finished four or five blocks and ended up using the blocks that I did make for an orphan quilt block quilt that was donated to our local Christmas Council.

The quilt is beautiful and I believe that it was made entirely out of her fabric stash. It is pieced with several different block sizes and filler blocks. The quilt had applique and several other techniques.

I did my first quilt when I was in high school. I purchased a quilt bat in a bag and it came with a free pattern. The pattern was for a 8 pointed star that had 2 different colors in each point. To say the least the middle of the quilt block is awful. There isn't one point that comes together nicely. My mom felt bad for me I think and turned the block into a pillow. The second try was a quilt made entirely of scraps called card tricks. Loved it. My grandma (who is contributing quilts) donated fabric, my dad and sisters helped lay out the blocks. It was a wonderful experience and a great start to quilting. The quilt turned out great and we even hand quilted it. Both of my grandmas, my dad, mom and sisters all helped quilt it so it really is a treasure to me even though it doesn't look like it would win any awards.

Since then I've decided that I don't really like hand quilting. I love piecing the quilts but hand quilting just takes too long and I don't think that my stitches are that great. So, machine quilting is the way that I go. Several years ago Grandma and my mom purchased a HQ16 quilting machine and it is great! I'm in the learning process of using it but my mom does a great job.

We are attending a quilt show in Salt Lake City that has all the new gadgets and gizmo's that quilters just love. I'll tell ya more about that later. As for now, off to bed my little bundle of joy will be up before I know it.

Til then,

Sarah
